About Tapu Camp
Welcome
Tapu Camp is a family-owned and operated campground that aims to provide a family-friendly waterfront camping ground.
Sides are just steps away from the beach, creating the perfect atmosphere for your coastal getaway.
What can we offer you?
A family-friendly campground on the waterfront of the Thames Coast - offering spacious sites, amazing fishing facilities and a kiwi atmosphere, the perfect place for your holiday destination.
Our story
Tapu Camp began as a paddock purchased by the local community to host events. Over time, the community decided to develop a campground as a way to help fund the Tapu Hall, which was originally built in the 1940s. Remarkably, Tapu Hall is still partly funded by the campground today.
In the early years, the Tapu community came together, working voluntarily for 3 to 4 years, to prepare the land for lease. That spirit of local effort and connection still shapes the campground today.
In 2024, the camp was purchased by Anne Reid and her two daughters, Nicole and Anita. Their vision has been clear from the start: to bring Tapu Camp back to its roots as a welcoming, family-friendly destination, offering affordable, waterfront accommodation for families to enjoy together.
Our mission
At Tapu Camp, our mission is to create a family-friendly coastal getaway—where everyone can enjoy waterfront accommodation, easy access to fishing, and affordable camping.
